German production duo Ancient Astronauts are releasing their debut album, We Are To Answer, on June 9, 2009. This release is modern downtempo dub with a heavy funk and hiphop flavor that is reminiscent of other European dub releases such as Dadub’s latest on A Quiet Bump.

The Ancient Astronauts are DJs Kabanjak (Ingo Möll) and Dogu. The bring serious production chops to their latest effort, having built a sound studio, and remixed music for Ladybug Mecca of Digable Planets, Zion I, Fort Knox Five, Up Bustle & Out, and Dr. Rubberfunk. Their own music label, Switchstance Recordings, is home to several German acts with a focus on dub/funk blends, including mix master Protassov, German roots reggae singer Mango Juice, and the Astronauts’ alter egos.

Stepping out from the sound board to the spotlight (like the Easy Star All Stars), Ancient Astronauts have lined up a strong set of hip hop MCs and musical talent for We Are To Answer, including Pharcyde members Bootie Brown and Imani, Azeem, Tippa Irie, Bajka, Phat Old Mamas, Ulf Stricker, Raashan Ahmad and Entropik.

1. I Came Running must’ve been composed while the ancient astronauts cruised across the galaxy atop their pyramid – it’s a melodic, ambient track with a soothing, contemplative melody.
2. Everybody (note: ZIP file) brings a funkier side. With a body-moving beat that focuses on guitars, beating drums, and sci fi dub effects, it’s a perfect soundtrack to the earthlings’ celebration of the Astronauts‘ homecoming.
