Reggae Sumfest promoters announced at the NYC launch that singers Toni Braxton and Neyo have been added to the lineup of “the world’s greatest showcase of reggae music.” The 2009 Reggae Sumfest launch party featured performances by Flippa Mafia and Spice and was emcee’d by Irwine Clare.
Toni Braxton has won 6 Grammy Awards and has sold over 40 million records worldwide. Her hit single Un-break My Heart is the 2nd best selling single by a female singer in Billboard history. Toni Braxton’s most recent albums were More Than a Woman under the Arista label, and Libra, her first and only release on Blackground.
Since his debut, Ne-Yo has five top ten songs on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist and two number-one albums on the Billboard 200. Ne-Yo has also amassed a catalog of chart-topping songs that he has written for other artists.
They also revealed that the July 19th – 25th Reggae Sumfest 2009 lineup features some of the best 2009 reggae and dancehall performers, including Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, the doctor, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Elephant Man, Lady Saw, Busy Signal, Spice, Kip Rich, D’Angel, Flippa Mafia, Morgan Heritage, Jah Cure, Coco T, Tarrus Riley, Etana, Da’ville, Rhaatid and Queen Ifrica as well as Nas and R&B star Jazmine Sullivan.
The Reggae Sumfest festival begins with a live beach party on July 19. From there, Sumfest 2009 continues with 3 days of live dancehall and reggae performances from Thursday, July 23 until Saturday, July 25. The 2009 Reggae Summfest organizers have reported that they “are pleased with how the line-up is coming together, and we promise this year’s Sumfest will be one to remember.”
