Can’t get enough of Reggae Sumfest 2009? Good news – “the greatest reggae show on Earth” is relaunching in virtual space on WWW.REGGAESUMFEST.TV.
Basically, it’s a website for Sumfest fans (and reggae fans in general) to view clips from this summer’s biggest live reggae music festival. Think of it as a Hulu for reggae fanatics. But it goes beyond the basics by also providing an online community that anyone can join and share photos and videos, chat with each other, and blog about it, as well as download Reggae Sumfest excerpts to their smartphones. If you’re familiar with the DubAndReggae community it should look pretty familiar – the SumFest community is also powered by KickApps, the online community building software that we use here (though it looks like the Sumfest folks are still getting up and running).
Reggae Sumfest began back in 1993 and has since taken a leading spot on the annual calendar of reggae festivals, with most of the top artists performing and fans gathering from around the world. Every year the organizers do their utmost to ensure that the festival surpasses the standard of the year before, and to create, nurture and maintain a true community of reggae lovers. Sumfest has also won IRAWMA’s Best Promoter of the Year award for the past 2 years.
REGGAESUMFEST.TV is their latest move – in addition to their own website, Sumfest is syndicating content to other online partners such as VPRecords.com, GotTEMPO.com, and CaribLifeCentral.com.
“WWW.REGGAESUMFEST.TV a unique platform created by CbeanMedia.tv will set precedence for the syndication of Caribbean content using New Media Platforms. CbeanMedia.tv is committed to the expansion and extension of all Caribbean Brands using sophisticated Internet Streaming Players, Mobile Applications and Online Community Platforms.” – commented Sherra Pierre-March, CEO and Founder Cbeanmedia.tv
Fans of Reggae Sumfest can expect to see the best performance from each night of the event and the exciting musical lineup of the three night culmination of the Festival’s week long festivities will include names like Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley, D’Angel, Rhaatid, Flippa Mafia, I-Octane, and a performance featuring Jackson brothers Tito Jackson who received a Lifetime Achievement award from the festival organizers on behalf of his brother Michael Jackson. (Reggae Sumfest 2009 was dedicated to Michael Jackson.)
Reggae Sumfest promoters and CbeanMedia.tv are focused on making this an affordable experience for the world and tickets for the Pay Per View Online will be $5.99 (US) with Mobile downloads starting at $3.99 (US). Fans will also be entered to win airline tickets on Air Jamaica and tickets to Reggae Sumfest 2010!
You can also win free tickets to Reggae Sumfest 2010 by uploading fun content to the Reggae Sumfest Community- “Earn valuable points for each piece of content you upload” and become part of the Sumfest VIP Club.
“We’re really creating a virtual Reggae Sumfest universe,” said Marcia McDonnough, the Festival’s Marketing Manager.
“This initiative is certainly overdue”, commented Johnny Gourzong, the Executive Director of Summerfest Productions, “we believe this is the next natural step for Reggae Sumfest. While we would certainly wish that everyone could come to Jamaica to see the festival live, we know it’s not possible, so this will be a way of giving more people a taste of this event that we are so proud of. We hope also that it will encourage anyone who had been hesitating in coming to Jamaica for Reggae Sumfest, to start making their plans now for next year’s festival, so that they can experience the full effect of the Greatest Reggae Show on Earth.”
