Pop singer Bruno Mars has followed his recent pop music Grammy award win with a new music video featuring reggae music artiste Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.
The song, Liquor Store Blues is from Bruno Mars’ debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. I have no idea how Damian Marley fits into the picture, except thematically (and the fact that Damian is doing a log of guest appearances).
Here’s the video for you:
Sadly, it’s not a great video, but still great to see Marley doing a crossover into the pop world. The smoke theme is nice but there isn’t a whole lot more to offer. It’s tuff when reggae is only popular in this lightweight context.
Liquor Store Blues Lyrics
Standing at this liquor store
Whiskey, cognac on a toast
Feeling like I’m running on a block
… chinky that’s why you can catch me here
Try’na scratch my way up to the top
Cuz my job got me going no where
So I ain’t got a thing to lose
Take me to a place where I don’t care
This is me, I’m a liquor store blues
I’ll take one shot for my pain
One track for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow
One shot for my pain
One track for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow
Me and my guitar tonight
Singing to the city lights
Tryna to living more than what I got
Cos’ sixty-eight inches
Ain’t gonna pay the ransom
I’ll be out until they call the cops
Cuz my job got me going no where
So I ain’t got a thing to lose
Take me to a place where I don’t care
This is me, I’m a liquor store blues
I’ll take one shot for my pain
One track for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow
One shot for my pain
One track for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow
Soon!
Give me this one shot for my pain
One track for my sorrow
I’ll get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow
One shot for my pain
One track for my sorrow
Get messed up today
I’ll be okay tomorrow

great song!
I have to agree that this is another great song by Bruno! He has impressed me again and again with his songwriting skills and I consistently look out for his new material.
